
Getting Your SACMI Blow Molding Heat Right
When you’re running SACMI rotary machines at high speeds, you’re fighting the clock. You only have a tiny window to get those PET preforms heated. If your lamps are sluggish or the power dips, you’ll see it immediately—uneven walls or that annoying pearlescent haze in the bottles. That’s why we built our lamps to kill that startup lag. The secret is in the density. To hit the right temperature in a matter of milliseconds, we play with the wattage-to-length ratio. By using high-voltage setups, we can cram more power into the filament without making the lamp bigger. It gives you that instant hit of infrared heat you need. But here’s the catch: all that concentrated energy is tough on your reflectors. Keep them spotless. If dust builds up, you’ll get hotspots, and your lamps will burn out way sooner than they should. No fluff, just fast heat. We use high-purity quartz glass. Why? Because it lets the shortwave IR radiation shoot straight through to the PET instead of getting trapped in the glass. We also calibrated the filaments for low thermal inertia. In plain English: the moment the power kicks in, the lamp is at peak output. Plus, we use standard connectors. You can just pop these in as replacements without having to tear apart your oven frames or rewire anything. The real-world trade-off. Look, fast-start lamps give you the punch you need for high-speed lines, but that speed comes with a price: thermal shock. Power cycling constantly in a high-frequency environment wears the filaments down. We’ve spent a lot of time balancing the filament thickness so they don’t snap or burn out prematurely, while still staying responsive. Just a tip: make sure your PID controllers are tuned to these specific wattage specs. You don’t want to overshoot your target temperature and end up with a mess on the floor.
