
Getting the Heat Right in Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time with high-speed PET blowing, you know the headache of the thermal profile. It’s the classic bottleneck. You’re running fast, but the heat just won’t sink into the thick base or that tricky neck transition. The result? Uneven walls and bottles that just fail. It’s frustrating. That’s exactly why we built our heating modules. We wanted to close that penetration gap for good.
Why “Standard” Heat Isn’t Enough
Here’s the thing about standard IR lamps: they often hit a wall. The surface of the PET melts long before the core even gets warm. It’s like trying to thaw a frozen steak with a blowtorch—the outside burns while the inside stays ice cold. We switched things up with short-wave infrared tech. By tuning the wattage and voltage to fit the HyPET footprint, we’ve increased the heat flux. Instead of the energy bouncing off the surface, it actually punches through the material.
The Gear Under the Hood
We don’t cut corners on the hardware. We use heavy-wall quartz because these things take a beating from thermal stress. The reflectors are polished to a mirror finish—because any wasted energy is just money disappearing into the air. Depending on which module you’re running, we use R7s or Sk15 connectors. They’re simple drop-in replacements. No fuss, no custom rigging. You’ll also notice a specific coating on the quartz. It’s not there to look pretty. It filters out the wavelengths the PET doesn’t actually use and focuses the energy right where it belongs: on the plastic. Plus, it keeps your machine’s chassis from overheating.
Real Talk: The Shop Floor
Look, a high-wattage tube puts a lot of pressure on your power supply. If you’re pushing these lamps to the limit to shave seconds off your cycle times, you have to watch your cooling blowers. If your airflow dips, the lamp stops heating the core and starts cooking the surface of the preform. It happens fast. One last tip: check your reflectors every single shift. A tiny layer of dust might seem like nothing, but it kills your penetration force. Keep them clean, and the machines will keep humming.
