Getting Your Bathroom Heat Just Right
When you’re picking out an infrared lamp for the bathroom, your first instinct might be to just grab the one with the highest wattage. But here’s the thing: more power isn’t always better. It’s really about how much air is in the room. If you go overboard, you’re just throwing money away on your electric bill and turning your bathroom into a sauna. Go too low? You’ll be standing in a cold spot wondering why you even bothered.
Finding the Sweet Spot
Think about the size of your space. If you’ve got a tiny powder room or a small bath (under 4m²), you don’t need a monster lamp. Something in the 250W to 400W range usually does the trick. It keeps things cozy without making the room feel stifling. Now, if you’re dealing with a larger master bath (somewhere between 6m² and 10m²), you’ll want to step it up to 600W or 800W. In a bigger room, heat just vanishes faster. You need that extra kick so the warmth actually reaches you before the walls soak it all up.
The “Hot Spot” Problem
There is a trade-off here. A beefy 800W lamp heats things up fast, but it creates a very intense zone of heat right underneath it. It can feel a bit aggressive if you’re standing directly under the glow. My advice? If you have a big room, don’t rely on one giant lamp. Use a few smaller ones instead. It spreads the warmth around more evenly, so you don’t have one scorching corner and one freezing corner. It just feels more natural.
One Quick Warning on Wiring
Before you start buying, take a look at your wiring. More wattage means more pull on your electrical system. If you’re swapping out some old 250W bulbs for 600W versions, make sure your circuit breakers and wires can actually handle it. You don’t want to find out the hard way by tripping a breaker right in the middle of a shower.
