Getting Your Husky HyPET Heat Right
When you’re running a high-speed Husky HyPET system, getting the preform temperature just right is a tricky bit of physics. It’s not about just cranking up the wattage. If the heat only hits the surface, you end up with thin walls and bottles that fail. Not a great look. We build our infrared lamps to push that energy deep into the plastic wall. The goal is a uniform melt, all the way through.
The Secret to Deep Heat
We play around with quartz compositions and wavelength tuning to hit the exact spot PET loves. By using short-wave infrared radiation, the heat actually sinks in instead of just bouncing off the surface. It’s a win-win. You keep your cycle speeds high, but your bottles stay strong.
The Hardware Side of Things
These are drop-in replacements. They fit right into your Husky systems without a fuss. We use high-grade quartz envelopes because they can handle the constant “hot-cold-hot” cycle of a production line without cracking. We also spent a lot of time on the connectors. They’re a precision fit, which stops that annoying arcing you get when you’re pushing high current through a tight space. You can pick the voltage and wattage that fits your oven’s power supply. Just a heads-up: if you go for higher wattage to get faster penetration, your cooling fans are going to work harder. If your cooling isn’t up to the task, you might warp your lamp holders. Keep an eye on that.
Putting Them to Work
Installing these is easy. They slide into the racks and wire straight into the standard Husky terminals. Since we calibrate these for high-speed lines, you’ll notice the preform temperatures stay consistent across the whole batch. That means you can stop spending your day constantly tweaking the oven zones. Now, there’s a trade-off. If you run these lamps at their absolute max voltage, they won’t last as long. Plus, you’ve got to keep them clean. PET dust loves to build up on the quartz. If you let that happen, you’ll get hot spots and the lamps will burn out way too soon. A quick, strict cleaning schedule saves you a lot of headache later.
