Here is the problem with most IP65 waterproof heaters: once you seal them up to keep the rain out, you’ve basically locked the heating element in a vault. If a tube burns out after five years, your technician is in for a bad day. They have to tear apart the whole housing, rip through the weather seals, and then pray to the gods of engineering that it doesn’t leak the next time it pours. It’s a mess. So, we decided to stop doing it that way. We went modular. The “Slide-Out” Logic Instead of wiring the heater directly into the chassis, we put the tube inside its own little carriage. Think of it like a drawer. When a lamp goes out, you don’t have to rewire the entire system. You just pull the module out, unplug a quick-connect terminal, and slide a new one in. It turns a grueling afternoon of fighting with gaskets and sealants into a job that takes a few minutes. It’s fast. Really fast. And that makes a huge difference when you’re out in the field. The Trade-off (Keeping it Dry) Keeping a heater IP65 rated is tricky because heat makes things expand and warp. If the seal moves too much, water gets in. By putting the heating element in its own “pod,” we keep that heat expansion contained. The outer shell stays still and stable, which means the waterproof seal actually stays sealed while the inner module does the heavy lifting. Now, full disclosure: using modular connectors adds a tiny bit of electrical resistance compared to a hard-wired setup. For most of you, you won’t even notice it. But if you’re running high-amperage shortwave tubes, just make sure to clean your contact points during your 5-year check-up. It keeps things from arcing and keeps the power flowing. The Reality of the Job Let’s be honest—industrial heaters take a beating. Between the dust and the moisture, something is eventually going to give. With a modular setup, a failed tube is just a part swap, not a full-scale rebuild. You keep the expensive waterproof enclosure and only replace the part that actually wore out. Simple.
